Detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Tangier - Tetouan - Chefchaouen

The first day of our 7 days north Morocco tour from Tangier will be at Tangier and transfer to the blue city of Chefchaouen. Depending on the time of arrival, we will leave Tangier and drive towards Tetouan.

Always called the White Dove, Tetouan is a city at the foot of the Rif Mountains famous for its white buildings and is referred to as the White Dove for the sculptured white dove statue in the city center. After a stop in the city, we will continue our way on a picturesque drive over the majestic Rif Mountains to reach the blue pearl, Chefchaouen.

Once arrive, we will, first of all, have a tasty lunch in a local restaurant. After that, you will be able to stroll through the blue alleys of the city and get pleasure from the traditional souks displaying several traditional items in the area and capture some of your best photography shots in front of the blue-washed walls.

The tour of the city will first take us through the Kasbah of Chefchaouen. Also known as the Ethnographic museum, the Kasbah is a sporting chance to gain more sight into the city’s history and culture when getting to the museum and see the old and traditional items and musical instruments such as clothes, arms, pottery, and weaving that are exhibited in it.

On the morning of the second day of the trip, we will depart Chefchaouen and make our way to Fes city via the Roman ruins and the imperial city of Meknes.

Leaving Chefchaouen behind, we will make our way through the amazing landscapes and the green fields for which the area is known to reach Volubilis. Upon arrival, you will have enough time to explore the area and see this special place where two powerful empires succeeded.

The Roman and the Mauritanian Empires have both influenced the region and it is considered today one of the best Moroccan well-preserved archaeological sites. During lunchtime, we will leave Volubilis and drive to Meknes which is not too far from the historical site.

After a delicious meal in Meknes, we will visit the great gate of the city Bab Mansour which is distinguished by its magnitude, as it contains an 8-meter high opening, as well as picturesque decorations and colorful mosaics. Just in front of the door, there is the famous square of Lehdim which is the gathering place in the city where storytellers, monkey trainers, snake charmers, musicians, and so many others present their shows.

Behind the door as well, there is the mausoleum of the city’s founder Sultan Moulay Ismail. Next to the mausoleum, we will visit one of the country’s mysteries in an old prison. Qara Prison is under the ground with a never-ending maze.

Also, we will visit the Royal Stables to see the granaries and the lake used by the Sultan to store grains in a time of distress. Eventually, we will leave Meknes and drive head off to Fes where we are spending this night.

Day 3: Fes city tour

The third day of the tour will be devoted to a sightseeing tour of the city of Fes in order to gain more knowledge of this city’s history and culture. Beginning with Fes’s old medina, which is a World Heritage Site known for its narrow alleys, traditional markets, and historical landmarks.

We will visit the main entrance to the medina which is Bab Bou Jeloud or Blue Gate and continue the tour to the world’s oldest university, Al Qaraouiyyine University.

Also named the spiritual and cultural capital of the kingdom, the city is home to a lot of old schools. The tour will go through Bou Inania Madrasa, which has great religious and historical importance as it is distinguished by its wonderful designs that combine many architectural arts.

A similar one is Al Attarine Madrasa, where we will also see the exquisite decoration that makes it a rare architectural masterpiece. Fes is also known for the production and distribution of leather products.

For this reason, we will visit the Chaoura Tanneries to closely see the process of leather cleaning dyeing in a handmade traditional way. Finally, we drive towards Borj Nord in order to visit the museum which offers several items indicating the history and culture of Fes.

To perfectly end the tour, we will have a panoramic view over the city of Fes while watching the sunset. The night is spent in the same city, Fes.

Day 4: Fes - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Sahara Desert

The fourth day of the tour will mostly be on the road. The so many special stops on the way as well as the transitions along the way will make this journey wonderful.

Starting with leaving Fes in the morning, we will drive through Imouzzar Kandar town to start our way on the Middle Atlas. The first stop would be Ifrane city, often called Switzerland of Morocco, it is a different Moroccan city distinguished by its buildings and winter climate which is covered with snow.

After leaving the Middle Atlas, we will begin driving over the High Atlas Mountains and stop above the top of the Tizi N’Talghemt mountain pass in order to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole region.

Descending the mountains, we will cross the city of Errachidia and stop at Ziz Valley. The valley is totally green and full of palm trees in the middle of the dried desert lands. It is also famous for its first ranking in the country for the production of dates.

After a panoramic view over the valley, we will continue driving next to the valley and cross Erfoud town to reach the desert. Once in the Merzouga Desert, you can enjoy the sunset and relax in the quiet desert atmosphere. Dinner is served and the night is spent in the hotel.

Day 5: Merzouga Desert tour

After breakfast in the hotel, the fifth day of the trip will be devoted to exploring the hidden secrets of the desert. Embarking on a 4WD vehicle, we will start the journey by driving through the Erg-Chebbi sand dunes and cross to the other side of Merzouga, where the Hamada, the black flat lands, starts, and the Algerian borders are not too far.

In this place, we will have a stop to relax with nomad families living there. We will see their traditional tents and have a deep sight into their culture and traditions in this very far corner of the desert.

After that, we will drive to a desert valley to take us to a mountain on the edges of the dunes. Above the mountain, we will be able to see an obvious scene of the transition from the sand dunes to the Hamada.

Next, we will head off to M’Fis where an abandoned French village is located. We will see how life looked like during the colonization days in the area when we walk through the buildings and the mines situated in different places of the region.

Backing to the inhabited part of the desert, we will settle in a village named Khamlia. The village is known for Gnaoua music that is sung by the locals, and we will have a break to listen to that type of music accompanied by a cup of tea.

Back in Merzouga, you will have time to relax and have lunch before we go on a wonderful experience. On the edges of the dunes, you will ride your camels through the sand dunes of Erg-Chebbi getting pleasure from the amazing views, and stop above one of the suitable dunes to watch the fascinating sunset.

Upon arrival at the camp, you will be cheerfully welcomed by the hosts who will serve you dinner and play drums music to make your stay in the camp unforgettable. The night is spent in your well-equipped tent under the shining stars of the Sahara Desert.

Day 6: Merzouga - Rissani - Todgha Valley/Gorges - Dades Valley

Early in the morning, you should not miss the chance to attend a charming desert sunrise above the dunes next to the camp. After a shower and breakfast, we will be back to Merzouga, from which we will start today’s journey towards the Dades Valley.

Just about 36km from Merzouga, we will stop at Rissani. It is a town famous for its huge traditional market that attracts all the villages and towns nearby. Rissani is also known as the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, which is still ruling the kingdom now.

After a quick visit to the great gate of the town at the city’s entrance, we leave Rissani and make our way to Tinghir city. Along the way via the dried desert lands for which the southeast is known, we will reach Tinghir city. The city is known for its green valley that crosses it and the mountains surrounding it.

Crossing the valley, we will stop at the Todgha Gorges out of the city. In the gorge you will have enough time to explore the area; you can walk through the canyon and marvel at the massive rocky walls, capture some amazing moments in this famous place and hike a little bit to have a better view.

Leaving the gorge, we will drive to today’s destination Dades Valley. On the way, we will stop at a special place where a magical rocky formation takes place. It is known as the ‘Monkey toes’.

Finally, we will drive through the snaky road of Tisdrine enjoying the amazing views of Dades Valley. Dinner is served and the night is spent in the hotel.

Day 7: Dades Valley - Skoura - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

The last day of the trip will end in Marrakech but will take us through different worthy stops. Starting with Kelaat M’Gouna town, we will drive through the valley of roses and continue to the palm groves of Skoura. Among the palm groves, there lies the wonderful Kasbah of Amridil which is home to a museum.

The Kasbah is well preserved and it is separated into two parts; the part where the museum is, and the other one where the owner’s family is still living. Afterward, we reach Ouarzazate, Hollywood of Africa. The city is where international actors and filmmakers stay during their filming.

We will visit Taourirt Kasbah to see one of Thami El-Glaoui Kasbahs and how its architecture contributes to attracting many films. In order to have a deeper sight into the history of cinematography in the region, we will visit the Atlas Film Studios.

You will be able to see the different stuff used in films such as buildings, cars, and decors, which will remind you of films and series that some scenes took place in here. Game of Thrones, Vikings, Prison Break, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and the Mummy are major examples.

After that, we will drive to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah. In this famous building, you have enough time to visit the place and walk through its narrow historical alleys. Then, finish the visit with a panoramic view of the whole Kasbah over a hill.

Leaving the Kasbah, we will ascend the High Atlas Mountains and start a picturesque drive above the mountains. On top of 2260m, we will stop at Tizi N’Tishka mountain pass to enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains and villages.

Eventually, we will reach Marrakech in the evening and drive you to your desired place, where the tour ends.
